Lily Zhu

  • Lily’s expertise lies in providing comprehensive guidance to wealthy clients on their comprehensive needs. Her global experience and specialized knowledge enable her to navigate the complex landscape of wealth management and deliver tailored solutions to meet the unique needs of her clients.

    Before becoming a consultant, Lily worked at OMFIF between 2021-2023 as the Managing Director of the Global Wealth Strategy Institute and Head of Asia. Lily spearheads initiatives that promote best practices for sophisticated private investors, their family offices, and their wealth management advisors. She actively engages in discussions about policy and global finance, fostering dialogue and collaboration among industry professionals.

    Prior to joining OMFIF in October 2021, Lily held a prominent leadership position at Euromoney for over thirteen years, where she oversaw the global private banking and wealth management operations across Euromoney Magazine, Euromoney Conferences, Euromoney Research and Data, and Euromoney Learning divisions.

    Lily is a trusted advisor to affluent clients and families with substantial experience creating and implementing solutions for the families succession planning. In the recent years, Lily has been dedicating her time to create NextGen connectivity globally.

John Mclean OBE

  • In 1999, John set up a manufacturing and retail business in Shanghai and since then he has been active in the promotion of UK/China trade & investment, people to people exchanges and the development of the bilateral relationship

    John’s initial background was in London and New York with PwC (Coopers & Lybrand) and thereafter with Gresham House in the City. He has been CEO, Chair and NED of several listed and private companies with a focus on business change and growth. His background covers operations, acquisitions and international management in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, China, Thailand and Australasia.

    In 2011, he joined the board of the China Britain Business Council (CBBC) as  a NED and in 2019, he led the City of London’s business delegation to China. Thereafter in 2020, John co-founded China UK Business Development Centre to continue to develop the business opportunities between China and the UK with a specific emphasis on the Chinese regional provinces and entrepreneurial and SME companies.

    John is the Senior Advisor to CCCUK (China Chamber of Commerce in the  UK). He is also Chair for the Institute of Directors for the City of London and sits on the FTSE Women Leaders Advisory Board.

    John was Chair of Carers Trust for 6 years until May 2024 and currently sits on the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Fundraising Board for the City of London. Previously he was member of the VSO Council and Chair of VSO China In the 2014 New Year Honours list, John was awarded an OBE for services to British business interests and the development of civil society in China.

  • William Knight is a co-founding partner of Emerisque Brands (an East-West technology based investment firm for branded consumer products). He is also a partner in Potentia Inc, an investment, private equity, venture capital and acquisition company dedicated to investing in food and food security. His responsibility covers emerging markets including China.

    As a Board member of or adviser to companies with a focus on the Indo-Asia Pacific region, he has been co-chairing the South Asia group at the UK Institute of Directors and the China UK Business Development Centre.

    His long career in the financial services has spanned ship and export credit finance at Lazard Brothers; project finance, government lending and capital raising within the Lloyds Bank group and, amongst others, as an adviser, investment fund raiser, fund structurer and independent board investment fund representative through his company, William Knight Associates Ltd. In this capacity, has operated with diverse jurisdiction including London, Hong Kong, Luxembourg and Dublin covering regulation, administration, investor relations and board formation.

    He has been visiting China since 1978 when advising British Steel and he has served on the boards of various China related investment companies including 7 years as Chairman of the JPMorgan Chinese Investment Trust Plc and as a Director of the FidelityAsia Values Trust. He has Chaired three Shanghai based joint ventures and a London listed, Fujian based logistics company.

    Now based in London, he has lived in Hong Kong, France, Denmark and Portugal and his banking and finance career has led to him completing business transactions on all continents.

    He is a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), the Scottish Asian Institute, SOAS China Institute and the Institute of Directors. He has a First Class Post Graduate Diploma in Export Marketing and he is a Freeman of the City of London.
